Earlier this week, Bua Thai Sushi restaurant celebrated its five-year anniversary. The owner, Lek Cameron, wanted to thank her loyal customers, with a complimentary buffet of traditional Thai food. However, a turning point in the Covid-19 pandemic told a different story. In spite of this, the few that attended enjoyed the food and the mood was light.
Celebrating Five Years
Lek reflected on her five years in business. Her decision to open a Thai-Sushi restaurant in the Ellsworth Commons community was that none existed. She saw this as an opportunity to introduce the town of Malta to authentic Thai cuisine. This along with her friendly personality is what I believe has led to the success of her business.
Bua Thai sushi restaurant is a family friendly restaurant. From the moment you step through the door, you feel welcome.
Culture and Traditions
I learned that cultural traditions are very important to Lek. She, along with the servers, dressed in their traditional “Chut” Thai clothing. Thai music filtered in through the speakers as patrons enjoyed the delicious brunch or a menu item.
On the Menu
The food was beautifully arranged in elegant chafing dishes. The Thai favorites included a tray of Pad Thai, Drunken Noodle, Fried Rice, Spring Rolls, Fried Chicken and Red Curry.
Every food item looked and smelled delicious. One can see that it was prepared fresh. It is apparent that many hours of planning and preparation went into this buffet. There was such attention to detail. In the end, there was enough for take out and it was encouraged.
Some Final Thoughts
Throughout the celebration in the Bua Thai Sushi restaurant there was a sense of normalcy. It’ll be a long time before it is back to “business as usual,” but Lek’s kindness shows that her customers are her number one priority. The community of Malta is lucky to have her and this establishment.
